Ever have those days (or in my case weeks *cough* months) where you stare at your screen and have no clue what to write?

That has literally been me for the past month or so. I’ve had all of these ideas for content, products and services but every time I’ve tried to commit them to paper (or a Word doc) the anger would rise up inside me and I’d stare frustratedly at my screen.

I even tried to “cheat” by talking my ideas into a Word doc on my phone but even then, I looked at the babbling words and thought “no way is that good enough to share with anyone!”

So last week I quit.

I quit trying to force the ideas out of my head. I distracted myself with other things. I read books that had nothing to do with business, I didn’t listen to any podcasts and apart from trying to get my head around GDPR before the deadline and my essential client work I spent time with my husband having fun (and being rather lazy)!

At first, I felt guilty. I felt like the “business police” (whoever they might be!!) would track me down and chain me to my desk. I felt like I was letting everyone down. Then it dawned on me – is this what it feels like to be an entrepreneur who’s taking a holiday!? Come on! Why should I feel like this!? But still I did.

Silencing my ego

Luckily mid-week I had a call booked with a friend (and coach) who helped me silence my ego (who happens to have a striking resemblance to Mike Wazowski from Monsters Inc. ?) and from then on I relaxed, went with the flow and enjoyed the remainder of my break.

First thing this morning this didn’t look likely but later something crazy happened. I actually WANTED to create some content. I WANTED to write this, I WANTED to post on Instagram, I WANTED to start working on my new email plan.

Creating white space

I just needed to create room for the ideas to develop and grow. I needed fresh inspiration, a new perspective and to stop being so dam mean to myself!

So love, if you’re being hard on yourself for not being motivated, if you feel like you’re failing, letting others down or not working hard enough.

Give yourself a break.

We are not machines. We are loving, caring, giving human beings who actually do need a little down time every once in a while.

And who knows, you might just find an idea the sends your content viral! ?
